Schneider Electric and Modicon Parts, New Zealand

RFQ / Schneider Electric and Modicon

Schneider legacy is not one platform, it is six, and each generation used different programming software. Which software your machine needs matters more than which processor it has.

Schneider, Modicon and Telemecanique hardware is everywhere in New Zealand water treatment, food processing and general manufacturing. We supply current production and hold surplus and used for the discontinued platforms.

The software generation is the real dividing line

Before the part number, work out which software the machine belongs to. It determines whether anyone can open the program at all.

Platform Programming software
TSX 17 PL7-2, DOS
TSX 27, 47, 67, 87, 107 XTEL or PL7, OS/2 based
TSX 37 Micro, TSX 57 Premium PL7 Pro and PL7 Junior, Windows
TSX Compact, Momentum, Quantum Concept or ProWORX, depending on whether the program is 984 or IEC
Twido TwidoSoft, then TwidoSuite
Later Premium, Quantum, M340, M580 Unity Pro, now EcoStruxure Control Expert

An OS/2 based tool is the practical end of the line for a lot of sites. If a machine runs XTEL, the program can only be opened on hardware and an operating system that no longer exists in most workshops.

That is not a reason to replace the PLC. It is a reason to hold spares and never need to open the program.

Where the software generation hides in the part number

Each platform marks it differently, which is why it gets missed.

Platform Marker Example
Premium Digit before the M. 3 is PL7, 4 is Unity TSXP57103M against TSXP57104M
Quantum Trailing letter. A is Concept, U is Unity 140CPU43412A against 140CPU43412U
Momentum Processor adapter family M1 is Concept, Unity M1E is Unity

On Quantum an A can be converted to a U using the OS Loader supplied with Unity Pro, with no hardware change, provided the CPU is at minimum PV04. See the Quantum page.

The removable part that carries the memory

A pattern across the whole Schneider range, and the single most common sourcing error.

Platform Card Effect
Premium PCMCIA 192 kB combined becomes 1792 kB program
Quantum PCMCIA 768 kB becomes 7 MB
M340 BMXRMS memory card Holds the application
Twido 32 kB or 64 kB cartridge Backup and program transfer. 64 kB also extends memory
Lexium Memory card Parameter backup and fast device replacement

Keep the card from any failed unit, and when buying used, ask whether one is included. A processor without its card may not hold the application at all.

Single characters that change the product

Schneider carries more meaning in single characters than any other brand we handle. These are the ones that catch people.

Range Character What it changes
OsiSense A or B Normally open or normally closed
OsiSense L or P PvR or PUR cable
Twido T or U Transistor source or sink
Twido A or E Without or with Ethernet
Zelio Logic 1 or 2 Relay or transistor output
Zelio Logic D deleted 24 V AC supply, and no analogue inputs
Zelio Logic E or D Clock, and whether FBD is available
Zelio relays 2 or 1 With or without LED
Harmony Trailing 7 Connection type
Harmony RA Head rotated for horizontal contact block
Altivar B or C Book or compact format
Altivar M2 or M3 Single or three phase
Lexium S at position 12 Customised version
M340 Trailing H Severe environment, minus 25 to 70 degrees C
NSX F, N, H, S, L Breaking capacity

Send the reference exactly as written. A character that looks like a typo usually is not.

The Telemecanique heritage

Much of the TSX, Harmony and OsiSense range was originally Telemecanique, and plenty of installed hardware still carries that badge. Square D and Modicon are also part of the same group history.

A module labelled Telemecanique is a Schneider part. OsiSense sensors are also currently sold under the Telemecanique Sensors brand with the same part numbers.

Ranges Schneider has renamed

Both names are usually in circulation, and the part numbers do not change.

Older name Current name
TeSys D TeSys Deca
Preventa Harmony XPS
Magelis Harmony HMI
Compact NSX ComPacT NSX, Pact Series
Unity Pro EcoStruxure Control Expert
Vijeo XD EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert
Vijeo XL EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert

If a drawing uses the older name and a current catalogue uses the newer one, that is a rename rather than a different product.

Keeping a legacy Schneider system running

Moving from Premium or Quantum to M580 is a rebuild. Different hardware, different I/O, and a program conversion.

And the conversion has a precondition: you need the original application. If the program cannot be opened, a migration cannot start from it and the machine has to be reverse engineered.

So for a machine with years left in it, holding spares of the original hardware is very often the cheaper answer. A processor, a power supply and one of each I/O card you run.

Secondary supply of these platforms thins out over time. It does not improve.

We buy Schneider and Modicon

If you are migrating off Premium, Quantum, Momentum or Twido, do not scrap the old hardware. Individual modules are worth real money to plants still running them, and so are the racks, PCMCIA cards, cartridges and programming cables. See Sell To Us.

Common questions

Can you get a part that is not listed on your site?
Usually. The site shows what we hold, not what we can source. Send the part number.

My part is Telemecanique branded.
That is the same part.

Is my TSX P57 a PL7 or a Unity processor?
Check the digit before the M. A 3 is PL7 and a 4 is Unity. See the Premium page.

Do I need the whole thing or just part of it?
Often just part. Trip units, communication adapters, contact blocks, heads, coils and memory cards are all separately available. Tell us what actually failed.

Do you supply used equipment?
Yes, where new is not available, tested and clearly described.

What is the lead time?
Ex stock items ship the next working day within New Zealand. We give you a firm lead time with the quote.

Do you quote in NZD?
Yes, in NZD including GST for New Zealand customers.
