Omron 3G3 Inverters and Variable Speed Drives
Omron / Inverters and variable speed drives
Every MX2 rating with its dual duty figures, the model number decode, and the matched EMC filter table.
Omron 3G3 inverters run conveyors, pumps, fans and general machinery across New Zealand industry. MX2 is the current workhorse, RX and RX2 the high-function range, JX the simple compact line, and MV the legacy generation.
How to read a 3G3 number
Take 3G3MX2-A2055-E.
| Part | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 3G3MX2 | Inverter family |
| A2 | Supply. See below |
| 055 | Motor capacity, 5.5 kW |
| -E | Regional or version suffix |
The capacity code is kW multiplied by ten. 004 is 0.4 kW, 037 is 3.7 kW, 055 is 5.5 kW, 150 is 15 kW. Easy to read once you know.
The supply code
| Code | Supply |
|---|---|
| AB | Single-phase 200 V |
| A2 | Three-phase 200 V |
| A4 | Three-phase 400 V |
| D2, D4 | Variant series, 200 V and 400 V |
A4 is what you want on a standard New Zealand 400 V supply. The A2 and A4 versions of the same kW rating are different parts and are not interchangeable.
Version suffixes
| Suffix | Meaning |
|---|---|
| -E | European version |
| -EC | Variant |
| -V1 | Version 1 |
| -EV2 | Version 2 |
| (Q), (Q1) | Regional variants |
MX2 dual rating, three-phase 200 V
From the Omron MX2 getting started guide. CT is constant torque or heavy duty; VT is variable torque or normal duty.
| Model | CT rating | CT current | VT rating | VT current |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3G3MX2-A2004 | 0.4 kW | 3.0 A | 0.55 kW | 3.5 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2007 | 0.75 kW | 5.0 A | 1.1 kW | 6.0 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2015 | 1.5 kW | 8.0 A | 2.2 kW | 9.6 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2022 | 2.2 kW | 11.0 A | 3.0 kW | 12.0 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2037 | 3.7 kW | 17.5 A | 5.5 kW | 19.6 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2055 | 5.5 kW | 25.0 A | 7.5 kW | 30.0 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2075 | 7.5 kW | 33.0 A | 11 kW | 40.0 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2110 | 11 kW | 47.0 A | 15 kW | 56.0 A |
| 3G3MX2-A2150 | 15 kW | 60.0 A | 18.5 kW | 69.0 A |
Read the CT and VT columns before sizing. A 3G3MX2-A2055 is a 5.5 kW drive on a conveyor and a 7.5 kW drive on a fan. Size it on constant torque unless the load is genuinely variable torque, because a pump or fan curve is what justifies the higher figure.
Getting this wrong in the optimistic direction gives you a drive that trips on overload the first time the machine is loaded properly.

| Model | CT rating | CT current | VT rating | VT current |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3G3MX2-A4004 | 0.4 kW | 1.8 A | 0.75 kW | 2.1 A |
| 3G3MX2-A4007 | 0.75 kW | 3.4 A | 1.5 kW | 4.1 A |

| 3G3MX2-A4150 | 15 kW | 18.5 kW |
Matched EMC filters
The AX-FIM filters are matched to specific inverter ratings, not generic. Confirmed pairings from the Omron documentation:
| Inverter | Filter |
|---|---|
| 3G3MX2-A2015 | AX-FIM2020-RE / SE |
| 3G3MX2-A2037 | AX-FIM2030-RE / SE |
| 3G3MX2-A2055 | AX-FIM2060-RE / SE |
| 3G3MX2-A2110 | AX-FIM2080-RE / SE |
| 3G3MX2-A2150 | AX-FIM2100-RE / SE |
| 3G3MX2-A4004 | AX-FIM3005-RE / SE |
The RE and SE suffixes are footprint and book mounting styles. RE mounts behind the drive, SE beside it. Panel space decides which you want, and they are different parts.
Tell us the drive and whether you need a filter, and we will match it rather than leaving you to work it out.
Cable and terminal data
From the Omron documentation. Useful at install time and rarely published.
| Model | Cable | Terminal screw | Torque |

| 3G3RX-A4022-V1 | Three-phase 400 V, 2.2 kW |
The same supply and capacity coding applies across the RX range.
Single-phase MX2
| Model | Notes |
|---|---|
| 3G3MX2-AB022-V1 | CT 2.2 kW, VT 3.0 kW |
The AB range runs on a single-phase 200 V supply with a three-phase output to the motor. Useful where three-phase is not available at the machine.
Option boards
| Model | Function |
|---|---|
| 3G3MV-P10CDT3-E | RS-422 and RS-485 communications board |
Communication boards are separately orderable and frequently missing from a used drive. If your application talks to a PLC over a fieldbus, check whether the replacement has the same board fitted.
Replacing a discontinued Omron inverter
3G3MV and earlier. The MX2 is the successor. It is not a drop-in: different dimensions, different parameter set, different terminal layout. Budget commissioning time.
Or keep the original running. If a line is down tonight, a surplus or tested used drive of the same model gets you going with no reprogramming and no panel change. That is faster and cheaper than any migration, and it is what we are set up for.
Migrate on a planned outage when it suits you.
What we can supply
Current production. MX2, JX, RX and RX2 across the full range, plus AX-FIM filters, reactors, option boards and operator panels. Quoted with a delivered lead time.
Discontinued. 3G3MV, 3G3FV, 3G3PV and earlier. Surplus and tested used.
Spares. Fans, operator panels and communication boards. Often the actual fault rather than the power section.
We buy Omron inverters
If you are upgrading a line, the old drives and especially the option boards are worth money to plants still running them. See Sell To Us.
