Siemens ET 200M Distributed I/O

IM 153 interface modules, bus modules and accessories. Plus the one thing about ET 200M that saves people a lot of searching.

ET 200M uses S7-300 modules

This is the most useful thing to know about the platform. An ET 200M station is an IM 153 interface module plus ordinary S7-300 signal modules on a standard rail. Same installation system, same modules, same front connectors.

So if you are chasing a digital or analog module for a distributed rack, you are looking for an S7-300 part:

How to read an IM 153-2 number

The differences between variants are invisible on the front of the module, so the article number is the only guide.

Functions that vary by version include SYNC and FREEZE, direct data exchange, direct data exchange with F modules, the 96 byte expanded diagnostic frame, operating twelve modules behind the interface, firmware update via PROFIBUS DP, firmware update via Micro Memory Card, DPV1 mode and IQ-sense support.

If you cannot find your exact variant

Siemens states that the IM 153-2Bxx1 is a spare part for the IM 153-2 across the whole 6ES7153-2xxxx-0XB0 range, and that it can additionally serve as the interface module for a DP/PA link or a Y link.

That is the answer to most unobtainable-variant enquiries on this platform, and hardly anyone publishes it. Send us your number and we will tell you whether it applies to you.

One catch worth knowing. Siemens notes that firmware update via PROFIBUS DP is not available when operating with the older bus module 6ES7195-7HD00-0XA0. If you need that capability you want the 7HD10.

HART and process automation

The ET 200M acts as HART master for HART field devices, including in hazardous areas, with the IM 153-2 passing parameter data from the engineering station through the HART analog input module to the instrument.

The HART modules themselves are S7-300 parts: 6ES7331-7TB00-0AB0, 6ES7331-7TF01-0AB0 and 6ES7332-8TF01-0AB0. See the SM 331 page.

New Zealand process plants run a lot of HART instrumentation, these modules are expensive, and very few suppliers list them. If you need one, ask.
