Pilz PNOZsigma and PNOZelog Safety Relays
Pilz / PNOZsigma and PNOZelog
Every PNOZ s order number, the plus-30 voltage rule, and which modules cannot work on their own.
PNOZsigma is the current modular Pilz safety relay range. Narrow DIN rail modules at 12.5, 17.5, 22.5 and 45 mm, with base units and contact expansion modules that clip together.
Current production, so these are supply jobs quoted with a delivered lead time.
Two numbering rules that save wrong orders
The plus-30 rule gives you the wide voltage version
Add 30 to the order number and you get the same relay in the 48 to 240 V AC/DC supply range instead of 24 V DC.
| 24 V DC | 48 to 240 V AC/DC | Model |
|---|---|---|
| 750104 | 750134 | PNOZ s4, 3 n/o 1 n/c |
| 750105 | 750135 | PNOZ s5, 2 n/o 2 n/o delayed |
| 750106 | 750136 | PNOZ s6, 3 n/o 1 n/c |
| 750124 | 750154 | PNOZ s4.1, 3 n/o 1 n/c |
| 750126 | 750156 | PNOZ s6.1, 3 n/o 1 n/c |
Useful when someone tells you the model and the supply voltage but not the order number.
The 750 versus 751 rule gives you the terminals
| Prefix | Terminals |
|---|---|
| 750 | Plug-in screw |
| 751 | Plug-in cage clamp, the C variant |
So 750103 is a PNOZ s3 with screw terminals and 751103 is the same relay with cage clamp. Same function, different termination.
Base units versus expansion modules
This is the distinction that catches people, because the numbers sit next to each other in the same range.
Some PNOZ s modules are standalone safety relays. Others are contact expansion modules that do nothing on their own.
| Type | Models |
|---|---|
| Standalone safety relays | PNOZ s1, s2, s3, s4, s4.1, s5, s6, s6.1, s9, s20, s30 |
| Contact expansion modules | PNOZ s7, s7.1, s7.2, s8, s10, s11 |
A PNOZ s7 is a contact block for expanding the outputs of a safety-related control component. Order one expecting a working safety relay and you have a module that cannot monitor anything.
If you are replacing a failed module, check whether it was doing the monitoring or just adding contacts.

Cage clamp variants
| Order number | Model |
|---|---|
| 751102 | PNOZ s2 C |
| 751103 | PNOZ s3 C |
The C variant exists across the range. Add 1000 to the 750 number in most cases, or tell us you need cage clamp and we will give you the number.

The delay range on delayed-contact models
On the PNOZ s5 the delayed contacts are settable from 0.04 to 300 seconds.
That is a wide range, and the setting is not visible from the outside. A replacement arrives at its default, not at your machine's setting, so it needs configuring before commissioning.
The PNOZ s30 needs software
Worth budgeting for. The speed monitor is set up using the PNOZsigma Configurator, not by DIP switches or a potentiometer.
If you are replacing a PNOZ s30 and do not have the configurator or the original configuration file, that is a problem to solve before the outage rather than during it.
Expansion modules for PNOZ s30 and PNOZmulti
Pilz makes a dual relay expansion module for connection to the PNOZ s30, PNOZ mm0.1p and PNOZ mm0.2p, giving two separate channels of 3 n/o plus 1 n/c each. Available in plug-in screw and plug-in spring-loaded terminal versions.
Coated versions for harsh environments
PNOZ s base and expansion modules are available with coated circuit boards for harsh environments.
Worth specifying in New Zealand food processing, wash-down areas and anywhere with airborne contamination. If your existing module is a coated version, the replacement should be too.
PNOZelog, the PNOZ e range
Electronic single-function safety relays, narrow format.

Important: safety replacements
Safety components are certified as part of a machine's safety function, with a rated Category or Performance Level.
A like-for-like replacement of the same order number preserves that assessment. A substitution may not. A module with a different contact configuration, a different delay range, or an expansion module in place of a base unit can change the achieved Performance Level even if it physically fits.
We will supply the exact order number you specify. If you ask us to suggest an alternative we will tell you what we think is equivalent and what differs, but the decision on whether a substitution is valid for your safety function belongs to whoever is responsible for the machine's safety assessment. We are a parts supplier, not your safety engineer.
