Allen-Bradley Micro800 Controllers
Allen-Bradley / Micro800
Every Micro800 controller, plug-in and expansion module. The number decodes, and the LC versus L50E distinction is the one that matters.
Micro800 is the Allen-Bradley small controller family, the tier below CompactLogix and the successor to MicroLogix. Current production, so these are supply jobs quoted with a delivered lead time.
How to read a Micro800 number
Take 2080-LC50-48QWB.
| Part | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 2080 | Micro800 controller |
| LC50 | Family. LC50 is Micro850 |
| 48 | Point count |
| Q | Input type. Q is 24 V DC, A is 120/240 V AC |
| W | Output type. W is relay, V is sourcing DC, B is sinking DC |
| B | Supply voltage |
LC versus L50E is the important one. A number reading 2080-LC50 has no embedded Ethernet. A number reading 2080-L50E does. Same family, same point count, different part. If your application talks over EtherNet/IP you need the E version.
A trailing K indicates conformal coating. A trailing N appears on some Micro870 variants.

Firmware revisions that unlock features
Worth checking before you buy a used controller.
Firmware 21.011 or later: Micro850 and Micro870 support Kinetix 5100 and PowerFlex 520-series drives over a Class 1 EtherNet/IP connection with predefined instructions and tags, plus generic profile tags for other devices.
Firmware 23.011 or later: Micro850 and Micro870 support the 2080-REMLCD remote LCD module. Micro820 gains Class 1 EtherNet/IP connection to Kinetix 5100 and PowerFlex 520-series drives.
If you are pairing a Micro800 with a PowerFlex 525 and expecting the predefined tags, the firmware level decides whether you get them.
Counting your I/O correctly
A detail from the Rockwell selection guide that catches people at quoting stage.
For Micro820 and Micro830, the maximum digital I/O figure assumes 8-point digital plug-ins such as the 2080-IQ4OB4 are fitted in every available plug-in slot. If you fit 4-point plug-ins you get less.
For Micro850 and Micro870, the maximum includes the base unit, plug-ins and expansion I/O combined.
So the headline point count is a best case, not a given. Send us your actual I/O list and we will work out what you need.
Programming software
Micro800 is programmed in Connected Components Workbench, not Studio 5000. Different software from the Logix family. If you are moving from MicroLogix, note that RSLogix 500 programs do not transfer.
What we can supply
