Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 Parts
Siemens / SIMATIC S7-1200
Every S7-1200 CPU, signal board and terminal block. Current production, quoted with a delivered lead time.
The S7-1200 is Siemens current compact controller and it is still in production, so this is a straightforward supply job rather than a hunt. We quote it as a distributor with a lead time to your site.
We also carry the spares people actually lose: terminal blocks, front flaps, cable grips and battery boards. Those turn up loose in stripped panels and are exactly what someone needs to make a used CPU complete.
Read the model name before you order
This is the most common ordering mistake on the platform.
| Model name | Supply | Inputs | Outputs |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC/DC/relay | 85 to 264 V AC mains | 24 V DC | Relay |
| DC/DC/DC | 24 V DC | 24 V DC | Transistor |
| DC/DC/relay | 24 V DC | 24 V DC | Relay |
The article number tells you the same thing. The letter before the final digit block is the giveaway: A is DC/DC/DC, B is AC/DC/relay, H is DC/DC/relay. So 6ES7214-1BG40-0XB0 is the AC/DC/relay 1214C.
Only the DC/DC/DC variants have pulse outputs. PTO and PWM at 100 kHz come from the 24 V DC transistor outputs. A relay version cannot do it. If you are driving a stepper, you need the A variant.
CPUs
| Article number | CPU | Onboard I/O | Work memory | Width | Weight |

| 6ES7214-1HG40-0XB0 | CPU 1214C DC/DC/relay | 14DI / 10DO / 2AI | 100 KB | 110 mm | 435 g |
| 6ES7215-1AG40-0XB0 | CPU 1215C DC/DC/DC | 14DI / 10DO / 2AI / 2AO | 125 KB | 130 mm | 500 g |
| 6ES7215-1BG40-0XB0 | CPU 1215C AC/DC/relay | 14DI / 10DO / 2AI / 2AO | 125 KB | 130 mm | 550 g |
| 6ES7215-1HG40-0XB0 | CPU 1215C DC/DC/relay | 14DI / 10DO / 2AI / 2AO | 125 KB | 130 mm | 585 g |
| 6ES7217-1AG40-0XB0 | CPU 1217C DC/DC/DC | 14DI / 10DO / 2AI / 2AO | 150 KB | 150 mm | 530 g |
The CPU 1217C is the odd one. Its high speed counters run to 1 MHz rather than 100 kHz, because it has 1.5 V DC differential inputs and outputs. Nothing else in the range does that.
How much can you expand?
| CPU | Signal modules | Comms modules | Signal board |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU 1211C | 0 | 3 | 1 |
| CPU 1212C | 2 | 3 | 1 |
| CPU 1214C | 8 | 3 | 1 |
| CPU 1215C | 8 | 3 | 1 |
| CPU 1217C | 8 | 3 | 1 |
The 1211C takes no signal modules at all. If someone specced one and now needs more I/O, the CPU has to change.
Signal boards and communication board
These plug into the front of the CPU. Small, easily lost, frequently searched.

The signal module substitution rule
Siemens published this and it is worth knowing.
The revised signal modules 6ES7 2xx-xxx32-0XB0 replace the earlier 6ES7 2xx-xxx30-0XB0 modules and are compatible. You can fit a 32 in place of a 30 without hardware changes.
One catch Siemens flags: to use the improved analog modules you must configure them under the new article number in the project, and possibly install the hardware support package. Uploading the configuration from the device will not recognise them, so they have to be dragged in from the hardware catalogue manually.
That is exactly the kind of thing that turns a working part into a return. If you are swapping a 30 for a 32, budget for the config change.
Terminal blocks
Lost, damaged or left behind on decommissioned panels. Sold in packs of four.
Two systems. The article numbers differ by one digit: 1 is screw type, 2 is push-in.

| 1217C, DO | 18 | 6ES7292-1AT30-0XA0 | 6ES7292-2AT30-0XA0 |
Coded and uncoded blocks are not interchangeable. Relay variants use coded blocks so a DC block cannot be fitted where mains voltage is present. That is a safety interlock, which is why the 40 and 30 suffixes matter.
Memory cards
| Article number | Capacity |
|---|---|
| 6ES7954-8LC03-0AA0 | 4 MB |
| 6ES7954-8LE03-0AA0 | 12 MB |
| 6ES7954-8LF03-0AA0 | 24 MB |
| 6ES7954-8LL03-0AA0 | 256 MB |
| 6ES7954-8LP03-0AA0 | 2 GB |
| 6ES7954-8LT03-0AA0 | 32 GB |
Unlike the S7-300 and S7-1500, S7-1200 CPUs retain the program without a battery and the memory card is optional. A used 1200 without a card is still a working CPU.

SIPLUS versions
SIPLUS S7-1200 uses 6AG1 in place of 6ES7, and the suffix gives the temperature range.
| Suffix | Ambient range |
|---|---|
| -4XB0 | minus 20 to plus 60 degrees C |
| -5XB0 | minus 40 to plus 60 degrees C |
| -2XB0 | minus 40 to plus 70 degrees C |
Important restriction. The -2XB0 variants cannot take a signal board or communication board at all. Siemens states this explicitly. If you buy the widest temperature range you lose expandability, and almost nobody mentions it.
Migrating from S7-300
If you are replacing an S7-300 with an S7-1200, treat it as a project rather than a swap. Different rack concept, different wiring, new configuration. We can supply the new hardware, keep the S7-300 running through the changeover, and take the old racks away afterwards.
