Siemens / ET 200S

IM 151 interface modules, power modules, electronic modules and terminal modules. Plus how to tell them apart.

ET 200S is the modular distributed I/O station you find on machines and in motor control centres. Unlike ET 200M it does not use S7-300 modules. It has its own range, and the numbering gives away nothing visually.

How ET 200S numbering works

Someone holding a module often cannot tell what class it is. This is the key.

Interface modules

The IM 151-1 Standard and the IM 151-7 CPU also exist. Send us the number and we will identify it.

Nine modules will not work with the IM 151-1 High Feature

Siemens names them explicitly. If your station has a High Feature interface, none of these will run behind it:

1COUNT 24V/100kHz, 1COUNT 5V/500kHz, 1SSI, 1STEP 5V/204kHz, the 1SI serial interface module, the Modbus/USS serial interface module, 2AI U High Feature, 2AI I 2/4DMU High Feature, and 2AO U High Feature.

This is worth checking before you order, because the module will physically fit and simply not function.

Digital input: 2DI 24 VDC HF, 4DI 24 VDC ST, 4DI 24 VDC HF, 4DI 24 VDC/SRC ST, 4DI 24 to 48 VUC HF, 2DI 120 VAC ST, 2DI 230 VAC ST.

Digital output: 2DO 24VDC/0.5 A ST and HF, 4DO 24VDC/0.5 A ST, 2DO 24VDC/2 A ST and HF.

Motor starters: direct, soft and reversing. Rated operating voltage up to 500 V, rated operational current up to 16 A.

The motor starter modules are worth calling out. They put a starter directly on the distributed bus, they are common in New Zealand food, dairy and water plants, and replacing one is a like-for-like job.

Terminal modules, and how to read them

The TM-E name tells you what you need. The letter is the terminal type: C means spring, S means screw. The number is the width in millimetres. So TM-E15C24-A1 is a 15 mm spring terminal module, and TM-E30S46-A1 is a 30 mm screw type.

Not every electronic module fits every terminal module. Siemens publishes a full compatibility table. If you are ordering a replacement electronic module, tell us which terminal module is already on the rail and we will check the pairing.

Why used ET 200S modules are worth buying

ET 200S separates the electronic module from the terminal module that carries the field wiring. A failed electronic module is swapped without touching a single wire, because the terminal module stays on the rail.

That is why a tested used electronic module makes sense on this platform in a way it might not elsewhere. It is a five minute swap, not a rewire.
